Mojo describes Don Kapot’s music: “The Brussels trio’s grooves go blurringly hard, offset by quieter fluctuating nuances”. Giotis Damianidis (bass, guitar and effects), Viktor Perdieus (saxophone and miscellaneous instruments) and Jakob Warmenbol (drums, percussion and electronic samples) co-create songs that are “sometimes angular, often hypnotic, always with the head on”, according to Knack (BE).
Singer Renette Désir is kind of a star in her home country, Haiti. A difficult journey brought her to Brussels in March 2025, via New York, where she met Don Kapot.
After a year of research, the quartet gathered in the studio to record an album that chronicles Renette’s experience in exile. Renette was forced to flee her country —ravaged by gang violence— after her plane was riddled with bullets upon landing in Port-au-Prince.
This concert marks the very first performance of this new project, which, despite itself, is fully in tune with the times.
The album will be released on W.E.R.F. Records in November.
