Chunks of Lilith est l’exposition personnelle du peintre Stefano Moras, organisée par La Vallée à Bruxelles et avec le soutien de Open Heart Foundation du 4 au 12 juillet 2025. L’exposition propose une sélection d’œuvres anciennes et récentes, offrant un aperçu aussi exhaustif que possible des étapes fondamentales de sa recherche artistique.

L’exposition se déploie comme un parcours à travers trois moments clés du cheminement de Moras : la période de résidence en Finlande, la phase suivant immédiatement l’obtention de son diplôme à l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Venise, jusqu’aux œuvres les plus récentes réalisées à Bruxelles.

Chunks of Lilith construit, à travers ces étapes, un récit visuel et immersif qui traverse plus de quinze années de carrière, mettant en lumière des thèmes récurrents et des éléments compositionnels typiques de l’artiste.

L’univers de Moras se manifeste non seulement à travers la technique picturale et sculpturale, mais aussi dans une dimension symbolique et visionnaire : constellations astrales, stratifications minérales, paysages oniriques où éléments naturels et artificiels se fondent dans un équilibre suspendu et atemporel, tout en étant en constante mutation.

Le titre de l’exposition naît d’une idée presque oxymorique, qui met en dialogue deux mondes coexistants dans le langage visuel et conceptuel de l’artiste.

D’un côté, l’élément naturel et cosmique, omniprésent dans les œuvres de Moras et souvent représenté formellement par des éléments célestes, comme dans le travail Luna Mangia il Crepuscolo (2017), où une lune noire semble émerger ou se coucher dans un paysage onirique et hors du temps. C’est dans ce contexte que s’inscrit l’inspiration du titre de l’exposition : Lilith, ou la « lune noire », figure mythique et rebelle, première épouse d’Adam qui, selon la légende, quitte le jardin d’Éden pour ne pas se soumettre à la volonté divine.
Lilith incarne une force primordiale, féminine, naturelle et créatrice, que Moras adopte comme symbole de l’acte créatif lui-même : libre, instinctif, expérimental, rebelle.

De l’autre côté, le concept de chunk, fragment, reste ou portion séparée d’un tout, qui évoque un processus de décomposition, de métamorphose et de recomposition, souvent médié par l’intervention humaine.

-Biographie

Stefano Moras est un artiste visuel né en 1985 à Pordenone, en Italie. Diplômé en Arts Visuels de l’Accademia delle Belle Arti de Venise en 2012, il vit et travaille à Bruxelles.
Dès ses premières années de carrière, il a l’opportunité de nourrir sa pratique artistique à travers de multiples expériences internationales. En 2009, il part étudier à l’Université des Sciences Appliquées de Lahti en Finlande, où il séjourne pendant un an. Entre 2012 et 2014, il est sélectionné pour une résidence artistique dans le cadre du programme AiR au KAT-Sugar Refinery Art Village, à Kaohsiung, à Taïwan. L’année suivante, il participe à la résidence Progetto Borca à Cadore, avant de collaborer avec l’organisation Dolomiti Contemporanee. En 2017, son travail est distingué par la Fondation Francesco Fabbri, qui le sélectionne pour son prix artistique. En 2020, il figure parmi les finalistes de la première session de la résidence Reopening Boxes à LaVallée, à Bruxelles.
Au fil des années, Stefano Moras a été invité à prendre part à de nombreuses résidences et expositions, notamment à Venise, Brescia, Trento, ainsi qu’à Bruxelles, en collaboration avec l’Open Heart Foundation, entre autres.

*Chunks of Lilith* is a solo exhibition by painter Stefano Moras, organized by La Vallée in Brussels with the support of the Open Heart Foundation, running from July 4 to 12, 2025. The exhibition presents a selection of older and recent works, offering as comprehensive an overview as possible of the key stages of his artistic research.

The exhibition unfolds as a journey through three pivotal moments in Moras’s trajectory: his residency period in Finland, the phase immediately following his graduation from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, and up to his most recent works created in Brussels.

*Chunks of Lilith* constructs a visual and immersive narrative spanning over fifteen years of his career, highlighting recurring themes and compositional elements characteristic of the artist.

Moras’s universe manifests not only through painting and sculptural techniques but also in a symbolic and visionary dimension: astral constellations, mineral stratifications, dreamlike landscapes where natural and artificial elements merge in a suspended, timeless balance—yet in constant transformation.

The exhibition’s title stems from an almost oxymoronic idea, bringing together two coexisting worlds within the artist’s visual and conceptual language.

On one side, the natural and cosmic element, omnipresent in Moras’s work and often formally represented by celestial motifs—as in *Luna Mangia il Crepuscolo* (2017), where a black moon seems to emerge or set within a dreamlike, timeless landscape. This is where the title’s inspiration lies: Lilith, or the “black moon,” a mythical and rebellious figure, Adam’s first wife, who, according to legend, left the Garden of Eden to avoid submitting to divine will.
Lilith embodies a primordial, feminine, natural, and creative force, which Moras adopts as a symbol of the creative act itself: free, instinctive, experimental, and rebellious.

On the other side, the concept of the *chunk*—a fragment, remnant, or severed portion of a whole—evokes a process of decomposition, metamorphosis, and recomposition, often mediated by human intervention.

**BIOGRAPHY**

Stefano Moras is a visual artist born in 1985 in Pordenone, Italy. A graduate in Visual Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice (2012), he lives and works in Brussels.

From the early years of his career, he had the opportunity to nurture his artistic practice through multiple international experiences. In 2009, he studied at the Lahti University of Applied Sciences in Finland, where he stayed for a year. Between 2012 and 2014, he was selected for an artist residency in the AiR program at KAT-Sugar Refinery Art Village in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The following year, he participated in the Progetto Borca residency in Cadore before collaborating with Dolomiti Contemporanee. In 2017, his work was recognized by the Francesco Fabbri Foundation, which shortlisted him for their art prize. In 2020, he was among the finalists for the first edition of the Reopening Boxes residency at La Vallée in Brussels.

Over the years, Stefano Moras has been invited to take part in numerous residencies and exhibitions, including in Venice, Brescia, Trento, as well as Brussels, collaborating with the Open Heart Foundation, among others.
